NATURE WALK

NATURE ON THE ISLAND OF ELBA

The islands of the Arcipelago Toscano offer a feast to birds and butterflies on their long migration from Africa.

The hotel’s ample gardens offer guests a way to relax and engage in bio, bird and nest watching and enjoy the butterfly garden.

The old-growth olive grove, facing the sea, is the backdrop for the pool and the restaurant. All of this with a Mediterranean shrub grove in the background.

The Hotel Fabricia is in an environmentally protected land and sea area.

The hotel's Active Club organize "Land & Sea" excursions, courses for kids and adults, especially snorkelling, free-diving and scuba diving, starting from 8 years upwards, for anyone wishing to get the best beauties of Elba island!

"Some advice to tourists: let yourself go. Go in any upward direction. And, as soon as you can, leave behind the hot August beaches".

Gaspare Barbiellini Amidei, native of Elba

  • The Scoglietto and the white beaches

The sea around the islet of Scoglietto, facing the hotel, since 1971 has been designated a Site of European Community Interest, a Special Conservation Zone and a Site of Regional Interest under European Union Habitat auspices. Commercial and underwater fishing are prohibited. Cast fishing from land is allowed from dusk to dawn. Since becoming protected, sea life has multiplied in the undisturbed depths with their prairies of posidonia seagrass. Our internal Active Club with Diving Center organize daily boat excursions, for divers or snorkellers.

  • Schiopparello-Le Prade humid climate zone

The Schiopparello-Le Prade humid climate zone is the larger of the two still existing on the island of Elba (the other one is Mola in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park). It extends for about 10 acres along the coast of Portoferraio, close to the Hotel Fabricia’s beaches. The zone is of great naturalistic interest for bird migration, stops and nesting. It is a Site of Regional Interest and candidate for designation as an Oasis for the province of Livorno and is considered a Tuscan Oasis of Fauna Protection. The Hotel's Active Club propose "ECO-SCOUT" course and tour in this area, ask for details.
